The 2016 Patrol Pickup comes standard with a 152-horsepower four-cylinder engine. A 261-horsepower V6 is available. A five-speed manual is standard with the four-cylinder engine; a six-speed manual is standard with the V6; and a five-speed automatic transmission is available with either engine. The Desert Runner and SL trims are only available with the automatic. The automatic transmission is responsive and willingly downshifts. Rear-wheel drive is standard in the 2016 Patrol Pickup, and four-wheel drive is available. The four-cylinder Patrol Pickup with rear-wheel drive gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with the manual transmission and 17/22 mpg city/highway with the automatic. These estimates are below average for the class.

The six-cylinder Patrol Pickup has fuel economy ratings of 17/22 mpg with the manual transmission and 16/22 mpg with the automatic. The four-wheel-drive model, only available with the six-cylinder engine, has an EPA rating of 15/21 mpg with the automatic transmission and 16/21 mpg with the manual. A rearview camera and sonar parking sensors are available as part of the Value Truck Package, and hands-free Bluetooth phone connectivity is now standard on all models, including the base Patrol Pickup.
