The 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser comes standard with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, good for 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. This is the same engine found in other large Toyota vehicles, such as the Tundra pickup truck and Sequoia SUV, as well as the related Lexus LX. An eight-speed automatic transmission rounds out the powertrain. Despite weighing nearly 6,000 pounds, the Land Cruiser has potent acceleration from a stop and offers smooth power delivery the rest of the way. The transmission occasionally upshifts too quickly, hampering quick acceleration under heavy throttle. After 60 years on the market, the Toyota Land Cruiser is still one of the best off-roaders you can buy.

It comes loaded with all kinds of off-roading goodies, such as a locking center differential, Multi-Terrain Select, crawl control, and skid plates for the radiator, fuel tank, and transfer case. The dynamic suspension can automatically disconnect the sway bar and adjust other settings for individual control on each wheel. A standard Multi-Terrain Monitor helps you see under the front and immediate sides of the SUV for hazards. Every Land Cruiser comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) pre-collision system, which includes forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and adaptive cruise control.
