Kia, as a result of the Asian financial crisis, Kia's bankruptcy in 1997 resulted in the loss of 51% of its shareholdings to its first competitor, Hyundai Motor Company, which outlived Ford Motors, which has had interests and partnerships with Kia since 1986.
