In the face of demand for fuel and higher performance, slowing sales of minivans, Ford has moved to launch a number of new vehicles, including a "sporty crossover" SUV based on unibody platforms,Rather than the bodywork on the frame.
In designing hybrid electric powertrain technology for the Ford Escape Hybrid SUV, Ford licensed related Toyota Hybrid technologies to prevent patent infringements.
Ford has announced that it will be partnering with Southern California Electric Power Company (SCE) to explore the future and components of hybrids in terms of home use. And the automotive control systems are operating on the electricity grid.
Under this multi-million dollar annual initiative, Ford will turn the Ford Escape hybrid fleet demonstration into plug-in hybrids, and how SCE can determine cars can communicate with home and electrical networks and services. Some vehicles would be scored "in
typical customer settings," according to Ford.
