Despite her passion of movies, Amal A. Al Muftah initially dismissed her high school cinema class (she took her to Qatar Academy). But fate had other plans. Her fascination grew over time, and the rest is history! History!

"Qatara's burgeoning cinema star" Amal is a Katari filmmaker born in Al Wakrah. At 24, she has been in several films.

Why does Amal like movies?

Amal highlights the importance of films during a workshop: "Film is vital to me since it is the best method to express myself. It allows me to express myself aesthetically and verbally. Unusual way to communicate." Qatar Press (Thimun)

What sets Amal's films apart?

Amal, a 2019 NU-Q Communications graduate, likes to show human vulnerability in her films. Her documentary "Sclit Second" won the People's Choice Award at the NU-Q THIMUN Film Festival. It also raises worries and discussions about a variety of daily socioeconomic issues.

Isn't that Amal's "own babies"

Amal is deeply involved in every aspect of filmmaking. Her "own babies" are all unique in their birth and upbringing.

Amal enjoys writing narratives and stories, as well as documentaries and current events. Her filming ambitions range from documentaries to stories, advertising, and everything in between.

Does Amal encourage female filmmakers in Qatar?

She does with Qatari women. "There is a general scarcity of filmmakers throughout the MENA region, not only in Qatar," she told Women of Qatar.

Besides filmmaking, Amal has other interests.

Amal enjoys cycling, boxing, water sports, yachting, and scuba diving. But that's not all. Her hobbies include reading, writing, cooking, and playing the oud and guitar. "All these things, plus my passion for filmmaking, make me who I am as a person," she stated.

"Hamali" (2013) learned about Souq Waqif Porter's life and honored her.

It was "Al Kora" (2014). A brother and sister in an old Qatari town were looking for a lost football.

Smicha, her late grandfather (2015). She's learnt a lot and gained a lot of trust. She screened the film privately and was praised by the locals. Her entire family enjoyed the film since it spoke to them.

"w Sh'hab"

Al Wakrah is a naughty eight-year-old girl who does whatever to be with her father and brother. The Doha Film Institute produced it. To keep her safe, her mother starts telling her intricate stories about falls. And so she begins to discover one at night in a lovely yarn about the wonders and curiosity of her infancy.

It also won the 2018 Sh'hab' Made in Qatar Best Narrative Film Award. In 2020, it won Best Cinematography, Best Actress, and Second Place in Short Films at the VIFF Varese International Film Festival.
